Horseshoe Baltimore Poker Tournaments

The 24/7 buzz, the amenities, the stylish setting, the daily tournaments at every level and the vast selection of games have made The Poker Room at Live! Casino & Hotel one of the nation’s biggest. And one of the best. Must be why the World Poker Tournament has made Live! Casino & Hotel a regular stop on their championship tour.

The World Series of Poker Circuit wrapped up its 2017/18 season – which catered to 133,892 entries and awarded $66,585,658 in prize money – last weekend in New Orleans. Now, a week before the 2018 WSOP gets underway, they’ve announced the schedule for the 2018/19 season.

The fifteenth season of the WSOPC features a record 28 stops, offers more starting chips, and will introduce both new price points and the big blind ante. The new season will kick off on August 2 at Harrah’s Cherokee and once again ends at Harrah's New Orleans in May 2019.

The schedule features two stops at both Chicago’s Horseshoe Hammond and Horseshoe Tunica, while Horseshoe Baltimore has been dropped. Additionally, last year’s stop at Seminole Hard Rock in Hollywood, Florida will now be held at their Seminole Coconut Creek location.

  • The 2017 WSOP Circuit makes a stop at Horseshoe Casino Baltimore running a series of No Limit Texas Holdem events from the 27th of April till 8th May, 2017. The poker tournament will showcase 12 events with the 3-day main event running on the 5th of May. Other featured events include the opening event “NLH Monster Stack”, No-Limit Hold’em Re-Entry (3-Day Event), No-Limit Hold’em Six.

Some Circuit Changes for 2018/19

Another change is $365 buy-in events being increased to $400, and the Main Event jumping from $1,675 to $1,700. Those increased price points will come with a bigger starting stack. Instead of 10,000 in chips, the $400 events will jump to 15,000, and instead of 20K the Main Event will start players with 30K.

Buy-ins for the upcoming season will include $250, $400, $600, $1,125, and $1,700, with various High Roller events being either $2,200, 3,250 or $5,300. Some events will also incorporate the big blind ante format.

“Everyone loves more starting chips, and we think things like the Big Blind Ante and larger prize pools will be big hits for all players.”

“For our fifteenth season, the time was right to take a hard look at our offering and refreshing it to give players a better experience all around,” said WSOP Tournament Director Jack Effel. “Everyone loves more starting chips, and we think things like the Big Blind Ante and larger prize pools will be big hits for all players.”

Once again, each stop will qualify two players – the Main Event winner and overall Casino Champ – into the Global Casino Championship while awarding everyone else precious points towards the leaderboard.

Each stop is also encouraged to offer both Seniors and Ladies events, which will award rings but not count toward the Global Casino Championship standings.

WSOP confirmed that the WSOP International Circuit will return, though the schedule for that won’t be released until a future date. One new stop that’s already known is at Montreal’s Playground Poker Club from August 23 to September 4, 2018. Below is a look at the current U.S. circuit schedule. Stops may be added or adjusted as needed.

I wonder if the NFL is going to keep crying about how sports betting threatens the integrity of the game. Forget about all the league and team partnerships with daily fantasy sports sights; on Friday, the Baltimore Ravens announced it has entered into a partnership with the Horseshoe Casino Baltimore.

“Horseshoe Casino Baltimore has become a popular destination, particularly for Ravens fans before and after our home games,” said Baltimore Ravens Senior Vice President of Corporate Sales and Business Development Kevin Rochlitz. “We’re enthused about this partnership and believe it will further enrich the entertainment appeal surrounding M&T Bank Stadium. Additionally, we feel it will help contribute to the exciting development taking place throughout the area.”

Rochlitz expanded on his excitement when speaking with The Baltimore Sun:

It’s a great thing for us and a great thing for Horseshoe. The opportunity to merge our brands together allows our fans to do certain things inside Horseshoe Casino, and we’re going to be working on some consumer promotions that they’re going to announce to rewards members. It also allows a great opportunity for our fans to come in here to the casino and win certain prizes.

As part of the relationship, Horseshoe can use the Ravens’ team logos for promotions and plans to re-brand the three-level 14Forty bar as a Baltimore Ravens bar.

As The Baltimore Sun mentioned, though the partnership is with a professional sports team, this has nothing to do with sports betting, since sports betting has not yet been legalized in Maryland. Considering casino gambling is legal in the state, with multiple major casinos, one would think sports betting would eventually happen. The problem is, even if state lawmakers pass a measure to legalize the pastime, residents have a final say and the measure must be put on a ballot as a referendum. It is took late for that to happen this year, as the 2018 elections are only a couple weeks away. The next opportunity will be in two years.

NFL Finally Dropping the Facade

The Dallas Cowboys was the first NFL team to partner with a casino, doing so with WinStar World Casino in early September. The partnership will be similar to that of the Ravens. Both the casino and football team will cross-promote and use each other’s logos.

The NFL and other sports leagues have fought tooth-and-nail to keep sports betting illegal for decades, even though they know that sports betting provides them massive benefits in fan and non-fan interest. Earlier this year, though, the U.S. Supreme Court overturned PASPA, the law that made sports betting illegal, opening it up for each state to make its own decision on sports gambling regulation. A few states have legalized it so far and several others are discussing it.

In August, the NFL changed its rules, now allowing teams to enter into marketing deals with casinos, even ones that have sports books. One caveat, though, is while the teams can advertise for the casino, they cannot specifically run or post ads for sports betting. Television commercials also cannot run during games, only before and after.
