Lotto 6/49 is one of three of Canada’s national lottery games. It was introduced to players in 1982. Lotto 6/49 was the first nationwide Canadian lottery game to allow players to choose their own numbers. Lotto 6/49 got the name mainly because of the rules - 6 numbers are drawn from a pool of 49. The minimum jackpot for all six correct winning numbers is $5,000,000. Also, a bonus ball is drawn every game, if you match five numbers and the bonus number, you win the second biggest prize which is usually between $100,000 and $500,000. Prizes are won for matching at least two numbers. If the top prize is not won, the jackpot prize rolls over to the next draw.
Many changes were implied to the game over time, mainly in order to offer larger jackpots. Firstly, the price of Lotto 6/49 tickets was raised in 2004 from $1 to $2, then the minimum jackpot was also raised from $2 million to $3 million. In 2013 ticket prices were raised again to $3 and the minimum jackpot was raised to $5 million. Also, Superdraw was introduced to the players, and a new option to win a Free Play for matching two main winning numbers was implied. In 2019 instead of a numbers drawing machine it was started to use a random number generator.

Purchase your ticket from a local retailer. The ticket price is $3 per line. You can play Lotto 6/49 by Quick Pick where the numbers are randomly generated, or pick your own numbers. Spending an additional $1 per the number you can increase your chances of winning. Saturday, winning numbers are drawn for the Lotto 6/49 Jackpot and subsidiary prizes.
Each Main Draw random 7 numbers are drawn among all numbers from 1 to 49. The first 6 numbers are main and the 7th number is the bonus number. In the Main draw, to win the jackpot you must match all six numbers (6/6 category). When the jackpot is not won, it is added to the jackpot for the next draw. There are 6 other categories where you can win prizes: 5/6 + Bonus number, 5/6, 4/6, 3/6, 2/6 + Bonus number, and 2/6. To win, you need to get 2, 3, 4, 5, or 6 numbers.
With a ticket, you also receive a Guaranteed Prize Draw. After the main Lotto 6/49, winning numbers are drawn one Guaranteed Prize Draw selection is drawn and is issued for a prize of $1 million. The Guaranteed Prize Draw selection is a unique 8-digit number, so if you win, you win it all. Odds of winning any prize are 1 in 6.6.
Lotto 6/49 is held every Wednesday and Saturday. Tickets can be purchased until 9:30 pm CT, 8:30 pm MT, and 7:30 pm PT on the date of the draw.

Players can purchase LOTTO 6/49 tickets for $3 at retail or online. In each draw there is a chance to win the minimum $5 million jackpot, also the $1 Million Guaranteed Prize Draw and other cash prizes for matching at least 2 winning numbers. Players can choose to play by using the Quick Pick option, where numbers are generated by a machine, or by selecting their own sequence of six numbers from 1 to 49, where you can use your favorite numbers.
